 "Global
Urban Observation"- GUO project is conducted
all over the world. Poland and Bulgaria were chosen for the
European region. Due to their significant achievements and
successful experience in the field of sustainable development Sofia,
Burgas, Veliko Turnovo and Troyan participate in the
project.
The project lasted 10 months /January – October –
2000/. It is aimed at cretaing sustainable national and local
structures for monitoring town progress via town indexes and
using the results for improving town development policies, as
it was decided on the 15th meeting of the UNCHS.
Through consulting 23 basic indexes were identified, for the
presentation of the conferences Istanbul + 5, and with
that, the towns were encouraged to work out other indexes that
could be specific for the town and the country.
"GUO" project strives to observe and control
conditions and tendencies and makes way for the progress in
implementing the Schedule of Habitat, which was accepted in
Istanbul in 1996. Concerning that project, in Veliko Turnovo municipality, a team of experts, with Mrs.
Rozalia Stefanova, head of department
"Administrative, legal and informational service"
in charge, is working on that project.
